Maggie Q and boyfriend David Leitch

Nikita star Maggie Q and her boyfriend of a year Hollywood stuntman David Leitch shopped for greens and grass at a local farmers market in Los Angeles, California on Sunday, June 12th, 2011. The thirty two year old beauty looked comfy in a pair of rolled up jeans, a long sleeve plaid shirt with a baggy cardigan over it. She finished off her ensemble with a pair of moccasins and a knitted cap.
When Maggie visited the Monte Carlo TV Festival last week, she opened up about her characters personal life. So what is in store for Nikita and Michael (Shane West) in the future?
“We are going to see more relationship stuff for her, which is great because, you know, she’s got to get laid, too,” she also added, “Nikita needs love. So there’s going to be that.”
Woo Hoo! I’m glad they are going to be getting to this point already because the tension is really more than I could take.
Nikita was renewed for a second season in mid May.

Variety - Minority Actresses Still Face Issues

In “Nikita,” Maggie Q can body slam three assailants at once, shoot with deadly precision and slip neatly into a one-piece bikini. But those abilities pale in comparison to her most incredulous feat: Headlining her own series as an Asian-American woman.

One could argue that it’s the best atmosphere yet for minority actresses, thanks to diversity-conscious shows such as “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Desperate Housewives.” Just last year, “The Good Wife” co-star Archie Panjabi became the fifth minority to win an Emmy for supporting actress in a drama. But when it comes to the lead category in drama, no minority woman has ever won.

“I get goose bumps when I hear that,” Maggie Q, less than a week after finding out her CW series had been picked up for a second season. “It really bums me out and gives me so much drive. There’s really no reason for it.”

One theory is that in these tough economic times, it’s too risky to go against the grain and give a minority female so much of the spotlight.

“My guess is that the people who put these shows together are conservative and not in a political sense,” says Carlos Cortes, a history professor at UC Riverside and the author of “The Children Are Watching: How the Media Teach About Diversity.” “Once a bankability formula is set up, it takes a lot of courage to challenge that. It’s all about risk aversion.”

When someone does take a chance, and it bombs, execs are likely to retreat even further into the bunker. Last year, NBC boasted to anyone who would listen about its putting a black couple front-and-center in “Undercovers.” It ended up being one of the season’s first casualties.

But the problem with the drama may have less to do with casting and more to do with the execution.

“J.J. Abrams’ ‘Undercovers’ is a woebegone spy drama with nary a hint of intelligence,” wrote Mark A. Perigard in his review for the Boston Herald. “Call it ‘The Quantum of Stupor.’? ”

The next series that will surely get the same kind of scrutiny: ABC’s “Scandal,” a Washington, D.C.-based thriller starring African-American Kerry Washington. It’s no coincidence that the series, targeted for midseason, was shepherded by Shonda Rhimes, an African-American showrunner who has long given her casts a strong multicultural and multiethnic mix.

Joy Bryant, who plays Dax Shepard’s on-again, off-again girlfriend on “Parenthood,” says she’s dismayed by the low number of minority women in Hollywood in positions of power. That’s one of the reasons she’s spending much of her hiatus developing and writing her own projects.

She says it’s clear that auds are ready to embrace all kinds of storylines that might have been considered taboo in the past.

“How cool is it that on our show we have an interracial couple and an interracial child and there’s not a big stink about it?” Bryant says. “Ten years ago, the show would have all about that: ‘He’s white! She’s black! And the comedy ensues!’?”

Perhaps the best evidence about the aud’s appetite comes courtesy of “The Game,” a sitcom about the African-American athletes and their girlfriends and spouses that was canceled in 2009 after three seasons on the CW. Despite the long gap, BET started airing new episodes in January and, despite being a cable outlet, drew nearly three times the viewers that tuned in when it was on broadcast.

“I think what it proves is that people want to see good product, regardless of race,” says Robi Reed, VP of talent and casting for original programming at BET. Following on the success of “The Game,” BET is developing a one-hour drama.

Despite progress, there’s still work to be done, as Maggie Q was reminded a few weeks ago. She got a call asking her to do a indie film with a star who had just been in an Oscar-nominated film. She asked to see the script. There was a female lead, but she wasn’t being asked to play that part.

“They wanted me in the role of an Asian nurse who comes in three or four times in the film to change IVs and walks out,” she said. “I mean, I have my own TV series. It’s unbelievable. Things haven’t really changed yet.”

Maggie Q signs to romantic movie?

By Marcus Lim

Executive Shuffle News
After 20 years of working in film and television overseas, two native-born producers are returning to Singapore to establish a production and talent management entity, it was announced yesterday.

Sukee Chew (pictured left), producer of Jesus Henry Christ, which plays at a gala red carpet screening on Friday, and Andrew Ooi (黃佑穎), manager for a host of talent including Chin Han (黃經漢), Archie Kao and Maggie Q, are setting up the COcreative Company.

Chew and Ooi have already planned a slate of films, including a biopic starring Maggie Q, a romantic comedy and an action thriller to be shot in Singapore.

"We are delighted to welcome The COcreative Company to the home of the founders," said Aubeck Kam, CEO of Singapore's Media Development Authority (MDA).

"I hope that we will see more of such links established between the vibrant Singapore media industry and it's dynamic diaspora of Singaporeans in the global media industry."

Nikita Stars tease 'Mikita' future

The stars of Nikita have hinted that Nikita and Michael’s romantic reunion could be short-lived.
Executive producer Craig Silverstein previously teased that future episodes will test the pair’s repaired relationship.

Shane West (Michael) told TV Line: “It’s very easy to bring two people together, and it’s very hard to pull them apart, [but] having these two characters together now is going to be difficult.”

Maggie Q (Nikita) added that showrunner Silverstein “wants to create friction” between the couple, who are on the run from a revamped Division.

“[He'll] gut them, then make them happy, and then gut them again,” she suggested. “That’s his plan.”

Maggie Q recently claimed that Michael and Nikita will face “new threats” in the upcoming second season.

“It’s not just Division now,” she said. “I think you’re going to see Percy (Xander Berkeley) go into a different world. You’re going to see Amanda (Melinda Clarke) be in a different world with Alex [and] there are going to be other threats that pop up too.”

Nikita will return to The CW in the fall, airing in a new slot on Fridays at 8/7c.

Old Maggie Q Photoshoot

Maggie Q - Nikita Spoiler

(Old news on twitter haha)

Actress Maggie Q told the Brazilian press in London about some of the scoop for Nikita’s smashing Season 2 which, according to co-star Shane West, will start being filmed in July:

“We don’t know anything about her [Nikita], about her past. In the first season we saw alot of what she wants for the future, and now it’s time to go back,” says the actress, who also reveals that the next season will have a new character to mess up the romance between Michael and Nikita. “I don’t know who the actress is yet, but one thing I can say about the series: when everything seems to be going well, there will always be something soon after to make everything wrong,” she laughs.

Maggie Q interview promo for BFAS

http://www.genogenogeno.com/2011/05/maggie-q-asks-you-to-rescue-lovable.html

I think the funniest part is when the lady asks what microchipping is..the look on Maggie's face is hilarious.

IGN talks with Lyndsy Fonseca

IGN TV: Huge congratulations on the pickup. This was my favorite new network series this past season, so I was really excited to hear the news.

Lyndsy Fonseca:
Thank you! We have an effing blast. We love it, so I'm really happy we get a second opportunity.

- The CW
IGN: Are you shocked by how many twists and turns have already occurred on the show?

Fonseca: I love it. I think at the beginning of the season, the writers were kind of figuring out what works and what not, like any new show, and getting their footing. And by the end of the season, I just thought it was just really, really kick ass and I thought they did an incredible job. And I think this next season is going to be even better.

IGN: It seems like your character will have an entirely new dynamic next season, possibly working more closely with Amanda.
Fonseca: Yeah, we'll see! It will be interesting. I'm really excited for Alex to kind of be her own person, you know? She's really, really grown up a lot since the beginning of the season. So I think the writers are going to give me a lot to do and that's interesting. The never bore me, let's just say that!

- The CW
IGN: In the first half of the season, we wanted to see Nikita and Alex working together more directly. We got that for a while, but now you've been split off again!

Fonseca: I think with a show like this, with two strong female characters, it will go in cycles. We'll come together and then go apart - like any female relationship, right? [Laughs] But I love their bond and I think even if they were to be against each other, that bond that they have from their past will be so strong that they'll be nothing like it. So I'm not concerned. I think it'll be really fun to have a new dynamic.

IGN: How much has [showrunner] Craig Silverstein told you about next season? Has he given you any hints?

Fonseca: Maggie probably knows a lot more than me, but I prefer not to know. I like to stay in the dark. I could call him and be like, "Tell me, tell me!" And sometimes I have about certain things, to play it right, but I don't know… I prefer not knowing, because it makes me focus on one script at a time.

IGN: I have to tell you, I was sure that Nathan wasn't going to make it through the season alive. Think we might see him again?

Fonseca: Nathan's alive, so you never know! He could totally come back. And I'm also hoping Deveon Sawa comes back and I'm hoping Noah Bean comes back. I love them so much

IGN: Maggie and Shane on what is next for Nikita

IGN TV: When you began this show a year ago, could you possibly imagine how quickly things would move?
Maggie Q: It’s a different show now, it really is, from where we started to where we are. And that’s what [Nikita showrunner] Craig [Silverstein] promised. He did say that by the end of the first season, you won’t recognize these characters. You won’t believe where they’ve come from and where they’re going. And he did it!
Shane West: That’s about all I knew. He said that and he stuck to that, but I really didn’t know all of that was going to happen in one year. Because it could have been dragged out. I mean, there’s so many different ways that you could have done it. And it was so action-packed and it was really exciting and kept us on our toes all the time.
IGN: How much do you know about where it will go next season? Nikita and Michael are out there together somewhere. Do you think we’ll just jump back into the action?
Maggie Q: Well, knowing Craig the way I do, we are going to jump right into Season 2, in a big way. Hopefully Danny Cannon will come back, who directed the pilot, and do the first episode of Season 2. I’m going to send him threatening emails! And then after that… I was making fun of Craig, because in the last scene, Michael and Nikita, they sort of drive off and the idea is that they stopped off at a Walmart or something and she bought a t-shirt and he bought a Members Only jacket. [Laughs]

West: That’s right. [Shaking Head] My choice: Members Only.
Maggie Q: So I said to Craig, “We are not starting Season 2 in these clothes!” He goes, “Oh no, oh no!”
West: Yeah, I was a little worried about that too. We’ll fast forward a day!
Maggie Q: I Think you can expect the first two episodes of Season 2 to be kind of explosive, mind-blowing stuff, just like how we ended it. We’re going to keep the momentum. I know that sounds weird, because there’s such a big gap. But definitely, it’s going to be nuts!
IGN: Are you excited to show Michael and Nikita’s dynamic, now that Michael doesn’t have to keep returning to Division?
West: Oh yeah. They’re together now!
Maggie Q: Even though Shane looks sexy in a suit, it’s going to be nice to have him [with me].
West: What am I gonna wear now?
Maggie Q: Something hot! I’ll pick it.
West: Members Only.
Maggie Q: Members Only. Constantly.
West: Over and over and over again! Yeah, I think you can see that dynamic between them without Division being a part of it. I think that’s going to be part of what’s so lovely about it and also what’s going to be so difficult about it.
Maggie Q: It’s not just Division now. I think you’re going to see Percy go into a different world. You’re going to see Amanda be in a different world with Alex. There are new threats. There are going to be other threats that pop up too. So you’re going to have like these five different, ‘Holy s**t, what’s happening?’ groups. And so Michael and Nikita… it’s gonna be rough! It’s going to be hard. They’re most wanted, these two.
IGN: It took a while for us to see Nikita and Alex working together on screen, but now that’s shifted again.
Maggie Q: Big time.
IGN: You were both mentor figures for Alex, but now you’re completely split off from her. Do you think Michael and Nikita might be able to slowly repair that?
West: I don’t know. We’ve got to still see what happens with all that. What happens for Alex. But with her character, that was a lot of the plot of that last episode, was she had to make her own decisions. So she’s making her decision – that’s where she’s going to take her life. We’ve made our decision. We’re going our way. That’s why we left everything kind of open-ended. It’s hard to see what’s going to happen.
Maggie Q: It’s interesting, the student becoming the sort of antagonistic character. The student will try to defy the master. Always. That sort of always happens. It’s going to be interesting to explore. The thing that I love about this show is that there can’t really be any judgment, because they all have a past. Alex less so than anyone else, but what she had to swallow, because of what Nikita did [to her father], obviously wasn’t her choice. But because of what Nikita actually, physically did, Alex has got to come to terms with, ‘What do I do? Do I live with that? Do I forgive it?’ And it’s something they’ve all had to do.
It’s why Nikita can work with Owen. Because she can’t really judge what he did, because she’s done it a million times. And as much as it hurts her, it’s part of who they are. And there’s a huge theme of forgiveness that has to happen a lot in this show. And so it would be nice for that to come full circle, but you never know. Because someone as young as her, which is why we chose a character that young, can move in a different direction.

Great Maggie Quotes(:

Not only do I not want to be stereotyped as this Asian girl who fights – gee, what a wonder – but also I have more to offer than that.
I’m just totally into being strong. There’s something about wanting to get a jar or whatever out of a high cupboard, or moving a sofa over because my dog’s bone rolled under it, and not having to call anyone for help. There’s comfort in that.

When you come to America, it’s a very serious thing. It’s not like you arrive and they say, “Hey, come on! Do movies!” I can’t just be hopping around. I have to focus and be still and make sure that I put the time and effort in. Because if I don’t, I could lose it like that.

I got smashed in the face with a piece of two-by-four, which left one side of my face completely black for two weeks. I’m also deaf in one ear where my eardrum was blown out in an explosive stunt.

I’m half Asian, so people immediately go, “Oh, you do kung fu,” like that’s what we do. We wake up, we do kung fu, we brush our teeth. It’s just assumed that you’re not working your ass off to make this believable and make this something great, and we absolutely are. All of us. I’m not a wushu champion.

I always play these tough roles. I never smile, I’m never sort of happy or laughing. Um, I just had a comedy that was released a couple weeks ago in the States as well, called Balls of Fury, and I looked at it and I wasn’t laughing in that either! I wasn’t smiling, I was tough in it.

All the loves in my life, my dogs are the greatest loves of my life. I mean, no man could ever compare to my dogs, unfortunately.

You’re so full of shit! (During an interview with George Lopez)

My name is Margaret Denise Quigley. I have the whitest name ever! Yet I’d walk into executive offices and they’d say “your English is so good” and I’m like “that’s a shocker.”

When I was living in Asia, they just couldn’t pronounce it (her surname). One day the biggest newspaper printed ‘Q’ and then everybody followed that and then I’d show up and they’d say that and I went “okay!” (On how she became Maggie Q)

I like to be challenged. I like people who do not believe in me. The more people doubt you, the bigger the surprise is going to be when they are proven wrong in the long run. I respond very well to such pressure.

Maggie Q "Priest" Interview by Fred Topel

If you need a hot babe who can kick vampire butt, you hire Maggie Q. Seems obvious, right? Why would you even audition anyone else? For Priest, Q won the role of Priestess, Priestess being the female form of Priest in case you were wondering. While all the other Priestess hopefuls tried to show off their cleavage, Q impressed director Scott Stewart in her street clothes.

“We did the casting thing and had a lot of young, very attractive, very well known young actresses,” Stewart said. “They’re coming in and they’re all wearing these cat suits and all these things. They would wear boots and stuff. Maggie came in wearing ratty jeans and a faded Beastie Boys t-shirt. She had an ice tea or diet coke, she walked in and was like, ‘I think I dressed wrong for this.’”
Nope, Maggie. You look awesome in anything. “First of all, you’re right, the heels and the hair, and there was all this smokey eye [make-up] happening and boobage, which I couldn’t do, even if I wanted to, so I was jealous,” she recalled with Stewart. “I came and thought I was at the wrong place because, last time I checked, the role was for a Priest. So why would you do the boobage and the hair and the heels? I was mortified. I was like, ‘What is happening right now?’”

Stewart thinks the other auditioners were copying Underworld, which is that other movie where hot women in tight spandex fight monsters. Q was just thinking of nailing the test scene.
“What matters is what you bring to the table,” she said. “It’s hard to find your inner truth in a little room with four people that you don’t know. I think all this [exterior], I don’t know what that’s about. I don’t know why they do it, I don’t know what it’s about. Obviously as well by the way, the point is if you’re in a room with a director who understands at a certain level what he wants to bring on screen, none of this matters. [The costumers] make you into whatever it is that they’re going to make you into.”

So without her homemade vamp suit, Q conveyed the reality of being a vampire hunting priestess in a Hollywood boardroom. “We did two scenes,” Stewart said. “One was the scene where she hands the cross back to Priest and she just took us there. You’re just immediately there. You’re just there. You’re like oh, okay, this feels like a movie and it feels like a movie that takes place in this kind of alternate heightened reality or alternate reality. You’re there.”

Nikita "Pandora" Recap - Spoiler

Don't read if you haven't watched it yet. And yeah, I know it's a little late, but I feel like discussing the NIKITA season finale! I mean, it was EPIC(: This is a very off-the-top-of-my-head recap BTW! lol - It started with Alex(Lyndsy Fonseca) "killing" Nikita(Maggie Q), which freaked me out! Then Division agents burst in and take Alex back to Division while one stays to "clean" Nikita. While Alex is being questioned, Percy is beginning his move against the CIA. He's already got his black box/Trojan Horse into the CIA, and is threatening Oversight because he wants to "run the CIA". But while the cleaner is dealing with Nikita's dead body, it's discovered that she's actually alive. The cleaner informs Percy, while Nikita gets away. Percy knows that she could ruin his plans once again, so he activates a sleeper agent..within the CIA. Nikita has also found out that the black box she handed over to her friend, Ryan(CIA), is a "nerve gas" bomb. She immediately heads to Langley to save him and others that are in danger. Percy's agent attacks two CIA agents who are trying to figure out if Nikita is telling the truth, then attacks her but she kills him and runs to the room where the black box is being decrypted. She saves everyone in the room just as the gas is released. She is arrested and taken into custody. Meanwhile, Amanda is trying to figure out why Alex didn't warn Nikita, or really kill her like Division thought. Alex responds with, "Screw Nikita," then, "Because screw all of you too." Michael escapes from his "cell" in Division and attacks Percy, stealing his black box, then forcing Birkoff to decrypt it. (Back to Alex) Amanda sends an powerful electric jolt into Alex, making her unconscious, then injects her with adrenaline. Amanda tells her, she was clinicly dead, then revived and now her kill chip thinks she's dead. So Alex leaves Division and heads back to Nikita's loft to "get some things". But Nikita, who recently escaped the CIA with the help of Michael and Birkoff, is there too. They are arguing when Division agents break through the windows. The two rouge agents break free to the roof, where Nikita uses a zipline to get to another building and Alex goes off on her own. The last scenes show Alex getting kidnapped by the CIA and getting offered help to get back her father's empire and Nikita & Michael leaving to go work on fixing all the damage Division had caused. It was a pretty amazing episode! I was constantly on the edge of my seat, not expecting any of what happened! Hopefully there is a second season, because I'd like to know what happens with Alex & Zetrov!

Nikita Renewal

There is still no official confirmation from the CW Network about the Nikita renewal, although there are rumors circulating that it has been picked up for a second season. Let's cross our fingers and hope so! It would really be...tragic if it wasn't. It's a great show, with lots of suspense, surprises, and action. Check it out on the CW Thursdays at 9/8c

A little about Maggie Q...

Maggie Q's birth name is Margaret Denise Quigley. She was born on May 22, 1979, which makes her now 31. Her father is Polish-Irish and her mother is Vietnamese. She was born & raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. She began modeling at age 17 in Tokyo before making an unsucessful movie in Taipei. She soon moved to Hong Kong, where she was selected by Jackie Chan, because he saw a potential action star. "I had twenty bucks in my pocket. I mean, I literally did the same thing that my mother did when she left Vietnam... didn't speak the language... had no money." Maggie says why it wasn't very easy for her. Chan's intense training program taught her the importance of being professional and doing her own stunts. She now jokes about how when she started, she couldn't even touch her toes! She began her acting career in 1998 in a TV drama House of the Dragon. In 2000, Q made her film debut as Anna in horror film, Model from Hell, and went on to star as FBI agent Jane Quigley in the action thriller Gen-Y Cops the same year. Her appearance in Gen-Y Cops impressed Chan so much that she was cast in Manhattan Midnight and Rush Hour 2. She eventually even starred alongside Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible III! She is currently starring as Nikita, a rouge government assasin, in the hit CW show NIKITA, which just finished up it's first season. She also was in the new movie Priest as Priestess.
